Jo discovered this new range while in Paris at the 2011 Optical Trade fair and Wink Optometrists are now the exclusive stockist of the brand in Melbourne. Lucky us!

Rapp frames are designed and manufactured in Toronto, Canada. Each frame is machined in house, then assembled and finished completely by hand, taking up to six months in total for the production of each frame. The result is a delightfully raw yet refined piece of eyewear and the attention to detail is obvious in the quality of materials and the feel of the frames.

MYKITA’s in-house workshop in Berlin has been supplying hand-assembled eyewear for the high-end segment since 2003. MYKITA’s patented hinge concepts have given the brand a unique identity. The frame designs are avant-garde, individual and unmistakable thanks to their clear style signature.

A key factor in the company’s success is its integrated business philosophy – it is united under a single roof at the MYKITA HQ in the heart of Berlin. The dedicated workshop combines cutting-edge materials with high-tech component production and traditional hand assembly. The name MYKITA is derived from “Kita” (a common abbreviation for Kindertagesstätte) and is a reference to the firm’s first premises in a former day nursery.

Collaborative ventures with avant-garde designers such as Bernhard Willhelm or Alexandre Herchcovitch have seen MYKITA appearing on international catwalks and become an established feature of the fashion world.

Lovely WINK customer Paul Adams was kind enough to send us this picture, taken while he was filming the LPGA Golf in Kuala Lumpur and Taipei recently.

Paul said:

“Just a note to say how happy i am with my Mosley Tribe sunnies thanks to you. I have just got back from filming the LPGA Golf in KL and Taipei and wanted you to know I have never seen so many golf balls fly through the air in my life. When its my job to follow the ball off the tee 500 metres away through the air and show the landing it can be a bit stressful. and it is good to see a few hits (without the camera) to work out the angle of the flight of the ball before the TV groups come through. I kid you not, I saw every ball purely because of the Mosley Tribe sunnies.”

Oh, how it warms our heart! Thanks Paul, Thanks Mosley Tribes! The rest of you, time for a new pair of sunnies?

So Spring has sprung and Isson has come through with another incredible collection for 2011/12.

They just keep getting better!

“Australian designer Catherine Federici’s third series for her ISSON eyewear label embraces the simplicity of the Bauhaus ideology: stripping back design to its core function. Put simply, her minimalistic, geometric shapes possess a bold elegance.

The former industrial designer drew inspiration from the international art movement and some of the key Bauhaus designers of the time. “Their thinking was to reinvent with pure intentions, to create designs that were beautiful, balanced, timeless and yet very different to the ornate and fanciful norm,” Federici says.

Each design is carefully constructed around fictitious characters including Alberta Albers, the chic, mysterious turban-wearing jewellery maker; Henrietta Hamberger, the shy, introverted and understated writer; and Tierry Tackelberg, an industrial designer with an obsessive sense of perfection and a passion for travel.

Frederici’s practice of creating individual character-driven forms is something she has adhered to throughout much of her career and was distinguishable in previous ISSON collections State of Mind and Moonstruck Menagerie.

Exploring the principles of Bauhaus through a plethora of colours, the broad, solid frames are softened by their earthy palette – tortoiseshell, caramel, mint, bottle green, fungus, tiger and shark fin – subtly coloured so as not to distract from the essential designs of the frames.”

Made from vintage acetate, silk threads and metal shavings, the frames from the 11/12 collection are priced at $340 RRP.
